Girdwood Alaska
It’s that time of year when we here at Otalo are gnashing at our bits to get up on the ski hill for day of fun and snow. Getting us ready (and waiting), National Geographic has run a fantastic list of their Top 25 Ski Towns in the world. Top of the list? Girdwood, Alaska! As NatGeo tells us, Girdwood is an old gold-mining town in the Chugach Mountains 40 miles south of Anchorage, where most roads are unpaved. Life there is centered around skiing and snowboarding. From the slopes of Alyeska, you can ski the face with an awesome view of the ocean and because you are above the tree-line, there is an abundance of open terrain. And, as you would expect, crowds are non-existent, in addition to some serious heli-skiing and cat-skiing right from the base lodge.
Check out the Girdwood/Alyeska ski houses we found!
