Pulau Perhentian, Malaysia’s Hidden Gem
Malaysia is known for its many brilliant beach destinations, but none of them have anything on Pulau Perhentian (also known as the Perhentian Islands). The law restricts coral collecting, littering and fishing which make the beaches debatably some of the most beautiful and serene in Malaysia.
Perhentian literally translates to “stop”, an indication of what the islands are for fishermen from mainland Kelantan and Terengganu who seek shelter from storms that often vex the island’s seas and climate whenever the monsoon season rolls around. Pulau Perhentian comprises Perhentian Kecil (“Small Perhentian”) and Perhentian Besar (“Big Perhentian”) – both attractive to travellers. A good travel guide will tell you more.
